In addition to this wonderful and favoured site that is ZeroFlash, there are others out there.
Here is our list of alternate flash fiction/short story magazines, sites and competitions that may very well be worth your attention.
The list is ever growing and if you find a site worth mentioning, let us know.

Brilliant Flash Fiction Magazine is all about having fun – as it should be.
They’re constantly on the look-out for stories that are fun to read, and that are maybe even amazing.
They believe the best stories reveal how much the author enjoyed writing them – and we couldn’t agree more.
To make the site even better, editor, Aurore Lebas aka Dawn Lowe provides the winner of the seasonal competition a healthy €50 First Place Prize, with Second and Third receiving €25 and €15 respectively.
Story Shack receives stories of 1,000 words or less and if they are published, your work will be illustrated by an artist of their choosing. How closely you work with your artist is your choice.
No Cash Prize, but having your work illustrated is pretty awesome!
Adhoc Fiction is a free-to-enter, weekly flash and micro fiction competition. There’s a theme each week in the form of a word and the winner receives free entry into the Bath Flash Fiction Award. Pretty good as the winner of BFF receives £1000. Nice
Inkitt has a variety of free-entry competitions. Sci-fi, Fantasy and Horror themed. The winners receive prizes ranging from a participant badge for your blog/website, to a branded mug for your coffee, to the grand prize, a £25 Amazon gift voucher.
Bare Fiction Prize 2016
International awards for Poetry, Flash Fiction, and Short Story.
Now in its third year, the Bare Fiction Prize has given new and old writers alike an equal chance to win big cash prizes and publication within each of the three categories offered. In 2015’s Bare Fiction Prize, first place in the poetry competition (judged by Jo Bell) went to Astra Bloom – a complete newcomer to the UK literary scene. Each entry is judged anonymously by our judges, with the poetry and flash fiction category judges reading every single entry and our short story judge reading a longlist selected by magazine editor, Robert Harper.

I’ve entered the ad hoc fiction weekly comp regularly; if accepted you get to see your piece online in their weekly e book which is always a boost. Worth writing for it anyway.
