I’m Holly Geely and I write ridiculous fiction. My goal is to make people laugh (and/or groan) with humour and parody. I’ve written a trilogy and put out several flash fiction anthologies with varying themes.
What got you interested in writing?
I remember having to write stories in elementary school, but it was in the seventh grade when I realized how much I loved writing stories. My teacher was passionate about creative writing.
Tell us a little about your chosen genre.
For shorts I dabble in all the genres, but my true love is fantasy. I write primarily parody because I think everyone could use a laugh. I like to poke fun at genres. I like to poke fun at humanity in general. I like to think I’m a champion of laughter. (Also bad puns.)
What are your happiest memories in your writing career?
I was at the mall shopping in a clothing store, and completely at random a young lady approached me and said “Weren’t you at Comic Con?” When I said yes, she told me she was a fan of my work. I was floored.
How do you handle success and failure?
I’ve had mild success at best so my ego hasn’t expanded yet. I don’t consider low sales a failure, just learning opportunities.
What makes you write when you’re exhausted and your fingers ache?
If I’m honest, if I’m exhausted, I rest. Writing is not my day job, and I intend to keep it that way. If writing ever stops being fun, I won’t do it.
What is your advice to young and new writers?
If you love writing, write. If you have twenty fans, twenty thousand, or none, it doesn’t matter. You do what you love for yourself.
Are you a traditionalist or a digital? (paper or eBook)
My heart will always belong to print, but due to space limitations, I have mostly switched to eBook. Nothing can replace the smell of books, though (new and old).
Do you blog?
I do! http://hollygeely.com I have been slacking off of late, but I hope to get back into it. I post occasional flash fiction and once in a while I try to be clever about real life situations.
Do you self-publish?
Yes, I do that as well. My books are on Amazon and Kobo.
If you have a publication or promotion – tell us.
I recently published the last book in my Finally Trio Trilogy: The Dragon’s Attempt at Revenge. The trilogy is a lighthearted romp through adventure, romance, and poop jokes.
